John O. Sands, Director, Lowcountry Program

John joined the foundation in 2004 after a 30-year career in museum administgration. He served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Brookgreen Gardens, Pawleys Island, South Carolina. Before that, he was Director of Collections and Conservation for Colonial Williamsburg and Senior Curator for The Mariners' Museum, both in Virginia. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Trinity College, Connecticut; a Master of Arts in Early American Culture from the University of Delaware; and the Doctor of Philosophy in American Studies from George Washington University. He is based in South Carolina.
